Georgia Anne's 21st Party Preparations

Here's a sneaky peak at the hive of industry that is party preparations for Saturday night. The atmosphere is electric around here....the creative energy is AWESOME. I can feel the roof lifting and straining to keep the lid on the house. We might just lift off - UP style.

In no particular order......

2014!

I'm back from my 2 week break in Victoria, staying with Mum in Birregurra. This year was pretty special as one of my sister's and 2 of my nieces were also there, along with me and my girls.  It felt very Christmassy, sitting down to a traditional dinner with a fire going, and all trooping off to church on Christmas Eve, then sipping sherry and nibbling mince pies.

We headed up to Melbourne for a few days.  It was mostly spent eating and shopping (my girls are great shoppers and can keep going and going - I opted for refreshment stops while they kept going).

Melbourne city is fun to wander around with labyrinth like arcades full of cafes and little shops.  Alleyways full of graffiti. Sitting and people watching is the best.  I like the slightly grungy feel in these back lanes. It feels a bit more real to me than the highly polished and sophisticated shops. And there's a definite air of individuality. I felt I was escaping the cloning-like-drone-like environment I feel in Perth at shopping malls in particular, where shop after shop is the same.

Here's pics from a free installation at the Potter Gallery. The rug...

I don't think you'll ever guess what it's made from...

The cushion...

And the remnants of a dinner party...

It was terrific fun standing and taking in the amazing details...the drippy candle, half eaten after dinner mints, wine spills.  It was done by the Hotham Street Ladies - a group of 5 women from memory.

Any guesses?

Linocut

I love linocuts and woodcuts.  It's funny how we're just drawn to certain things.  I always have been - from high school art classes to present day.  So I've done a couple of weekend workshops at the Fremantle Arts Centre in linocut.  So fun!.  The apple above is the result of one workshop.  I've printed up about 30 tea towels in various configurations - all over designs to motifs randomly placed. I'm using them as gifts - part of my "using up reserves" pledge!  So lookout friends and family - one is headed your way this Christmas!

On the subject of tea towels, another one of my great loves!  I have quite a collection and can't resist them.  My favourite Perth homewares shop "Bed, Bath and Table" always has a wonderful selection.  In saying that I have resisted purchasing any at all this year  (mmmm - just made the mental connection....is that why I've made my own?), but when we head to Europe in 3 weeks, I may not be able to resist a couple of souvenir versions!!  My lovely neighbour Rachael, returned from London with a gift for me of Cath Kidston tea towels!  How did she know!  They are much coveted and yet to be used.
